BUT CLUB - 1956

£10.00Price

Three 'But Club' Le Miroir Des Sports newspapers covering 1956. Issues 589, 590 & 593 from August and September of 1956 are included. The front covers feature a young Jacques Anquetil winning the 1956 Grand Prix Des Nations (he would win this every year from 1952-1958), Michel Rosseau being crowned a World Champion at age twenty and 1956 Men's Road Race World Champion Rik Van Steenbergen who took victory in Copenhagen just like he had done previously to become World Champion in 1949.

One of the newspapers presents Ercole Baldini's incredible World Hour best, at the Vigorelli stadium, of 46km and 393m which surpassed Anquetil's mark set only 82 days previously.

The newspapers display beautifully as cycling ephemera. Never intended to last the test of time, the articles provide valuable insights into the cultural context surrounding the major cycling events of late 1956. The newspapers could be framed for wall art, to be admired as decoration, used for research or for an everyday coffee table read. Preserving the newspapers allows these histories of cycling to be examined from a variety of perspectives.
