BUT CLUB - 1956

£7.00Price

Two 'But Club' Le Miroir Des Sports newspapers covering the 1956 Tour De France. Issues 634 and 640 from July are included. The front covers feature striking images. Stanislas Bober, covered in blood, is being picked up by the infamous Andre Leducq while the second is a Tour Special with a rider grimacing. The rear of an issue has a portrait of Spaniard Federico Bahamontes with cloth to his face.

The inner coverage features other stand out riders such as the points classification victor, Belgian Stan Ockers, mountains victor Charly Gaul of Luxembourg and French home favourite Jean Forestier. Moreover, the newspapers showcases the victory of Jacques Anquetil at Montjuich.

The newspapers display beautifully as cycling ephemera. Never intended to last the test of time, the articles provide valuable insights into the cultural context surrounding the 1956 Tour De France while documenting the riders everyday lives. The newspapers could be framed for wall art, to be admired as decoration, used for research or for an everyday coffee table read. Preserving the newspapers allows these histories of cycling to be examined from a variety of perspectives.
