MIROIR SPRINT - 1957

Three 'Miroir Sprint' Le Miroir Du Tour newspapers covering the 1957 Tour De France. Issues 579 A / B / C are included. The front covers feature Roger Hassenforder's second victory of the Tour at Perpignon, Italian Gastone Nencini (two stage victories) and eventual Tour runner up Belgian Marcel Janssens climbing side by side and Frenchman Jean Stablinksi en route to his solo stage twelve victory from Cannes to Marseilles.

The inner coverage features other stand out riders from the 1957 Tour De France such as general classification winner Jacques Anquetil, Francois Mahe, Jose Da Silva of Portugal and Jean Bobet, brother of Louison. There is an exceptional image of the exit of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne where flooding had created a rocky path. Most riders had dismount and run the path but unbelievably some persevered in the saddle.

The newspapers display beautifully as cycling ephemera. Never intended to last the test of time, the articles provide valuable insights into the cultural context surrounding the 1957 Tour De France while documenting the riders everyday lives. The newspapers could be framed for wall art, to be admired as decoration, used for research or for an everyday coffee table read. Preserving the newspapers allows these histories of cycling to be examined from a variety of perspectives.
